How AI could reshape technology portfolios and budgets

According to Forrester’s latest Global Technology Spending Forecast, global technology spending is expected to continue growing, driven by investment in cloud, cybersecurity, generative AI and AI agents.
But as organisations commit more capital to the ecosystem supporting AI, that investment will increasingly have to come from elsewhere. By 2027, AI could begin pushing established enterprise software categories into revenue decline.
At the same time, the economics of AI are changing. Open-weight models are becoming capable of handling high-volume enterprise workloads, from document processing and customer service to knowledge retrieval and routine steps within agentic workflows. As inference becomes increasingly commoditised, model usage could grow dramatically without accounting for an equivalent share of enterprise expenditure.
This HotTopics C-suite Exchange, in partnership with Forrester, will bring technology leaders together with the analysts behind the report to explore what happens when AI moves from an additive investment to a force for budget reallocation.
The discussion will consider:
- Which parts of the enterprise technology stack are most exposed
- Where value will migrate as model costs fall
- How technology leaders should rethink their portfolios as AI begins to consume, consolidate and replace existing categories of spend
