Technology Leaders Movers & Shakers: August Edition

The technology function hasn't slowed down even in August: catch up on the following IT, security, data and digital leaders and their new roles and promotions as of this month.

Simon Sturgeon, Chief Digital and Information Officer, NHS South, Central and West

Simon has been promoted to CDIO at NHS South, Central and West. His previous role at SCW was Director of Informatics, which he took on for over four years. Simon has over two decades of NHS and public sector experience. He is described as a technology leader with a passion for innovation and service delivery.


Shubhi Rajnish, CIO, National Grid ESO

Shubhi is now the CIO at National Grid ESO, where she has been working since July. She has more than two decades of experience driving commercial value through digital and IT strategy. Prior to her new role, Shubhi was the Group Head of Information and Digital Technology at tobacco manufacturer BAT. Now, she is part of National Grid ESO’s executive team.


William Prince, Global Credit CTO, BNP Paribas

William is now the Global Credit CTO at BNP Paribas. Prior to his new role, William worked at Deutsche Bank where took on eight senior technology roles – the most recent being CIO and Head of Credit Technology. In his new position at BNP Paribas, William oversees the development and dissemination of technology for clients in the Global Credit department.


Matt Singleton, Adjunct Professor, University of Oklahoma

Matt is now an Adjunct Professor at the University of Oklahoma. In addition to his new role, Matt is the CISO for the State of Oklahoma, a Council Member at the ​​National Public Safety Telecommunications Council and the President of Titan Unifications. Alongside his new role, Matt focuses on the continual improvement of cybersecurity programs, tools and talent at the State of Oklahoma.


Alison Dyer, CISO, ASOS.com

Alison is now the CISO at ASOS.com where she has worked for the past month. Alongside her new role, Alison is Chair of the Crossword Advisory Board at Crossword Cybersecurity Plc. Prior to her role at ASOS, she was the CISO at URENCO Group for over four years. Alison now oversees ASOS’ cybersecurity program and is responsible for aligning the company’s cybersecurity and business objectives.


Tavier Taylor, CTO, Chartered Management Institute

Tavier is now CTO at the Chartered Management Institute. Alongside her new role, she is also an NED-CIO Board Advisor at Vite and an IT Transformation specialist and Board Advisor at TFM Innovations Ltd. Tavier brings more than a decade of experience in the technology industry to her new role at Chartered Management Institute.


Lisa Emery, Chief Transformation Innovation and Digital Officer, NHS Sussex

Lisa is now the Chief Transformation Innovation and Digital Officer at NHS Sussex, where she was appointed a month ago. In addition to her new role, Lisa is Chair of London CIO Council in the NHS. Lisa brings to her role more than a decade of experience in the technology and healthcare industry.


Albert King, CDO, NHS National Services Scotland

Albert is now the CDO at NHS National Services Scotland, based in Edinburgh City. Prior to his new role, Albert worked in a range of senior technology roles in The Scottish Government, his most recent role being CDO. He now oversees NHS National Services Scotland’s data management, data strategy and ensures data quality. 


Herman Swanepoel, Executive CIO, PG Bison

Herman is now the Executive CIO at  South African manufacturing company PG Bison. Alongside his new role, he is a Professor for Global MBA in Digital Business at Zigurat Innovation & Technology Business School. Herman brings more than 20 years of business and technology experience to his new role at PG Bison.


Andrea Markstrom, CIO, Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP

Andrea is now CIO at law practice Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP. Previously, Andrea was the CIO at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP where she worked for over two years. Alongside her new role, she is Co-Chair at InspireCIO Leadership Network and the Founder & CEO of the professional women’s networking organization i.WILL. 


Alexander Antukh, CISO, AboitizPower

Alexander is now CISO at utilities company AboitizPower. Prior to his new role, Alexander was CISO at consumer services company Glovo, where he worked for two years. Alongside his role at AboitizPower, he is a Member at ClubCISO. A seasoned cybersecurity executive, Alexander brings more than a decade of experience in the cybersecurity industry to his new role.


Aidan Hancock, CIO, Johnson Matthey

Aidan is now CIO at chemical manufacturing company Johnson Matthey. Prior to his current role Aidan was the Group CIO at Network Rail and took on a range of senior technology roles over the span of 12 years at BP. Now, he oversees Johnson Matthey’s current processes and leads an executive team of technologists. 


Vanessa Dent, Technology Change Delivery Director, Aviva

Vanessa was recently promoted to Technology Change Delivery Director at Aviva, where she has worked for almost nine years. During her time at Aviva she has taken on a range of senior technology roles including Head of Digital Change and Head of CIO Governance. In her new role, Vanessa is responsible for delivering a multi-million change portfolio covering cyber, cloud and hosting, network, operations and IT services.


Deni Boncheva, Global Head of Data and Analytics, Volvo Cars

Deni was recently appointed Global Head of Data and Analytics at Volvo Cars, where she has worked for a month. Prior to her current role, Deni worked in a variety of roles during the time she worked at PepsiCo. Her most recent role being Director of Global Digital Products Strategy, Global Strategy and Transformation. Deni brings more than a decade of experience in the technology industry to her new role at Volvo.


Paul Crichard, CISO, Serco

Paul is now CISO at Serco, as well as the Non Executive Director and Industry Fellow at the University of Gloucestershire, where he has worked for almost three years. Prior to this, he was the Director of Information Security at Doctor Care Anywhere. 


Dr. Maria Papastathi, CDO Technology, Shell

Dr. Papastathi was recently promoted to CDO of Technology at Shell, where she has worked for over two decades. During her time at Shell, she has taken on six senior technology roles and handled different responsibilities. In her current role, Dr. Papastathi leads and influences delivery to drive value from data through exploiting new technology, digitalization, data and analytics.


Andrew Grossett, Director of Technology Operations, Newcastle University

Andrew was recently appointed Director of Technology Operations at Newcastle University and has worked there for a month. Prior to his current role, he was the IM&T and IT Director of Naval Ships at aerospace company BAE Systems, where he worked for over three years. In his new role at Newcastle University, Andrew oversees the design, plan and implementation of their technology services.


Michael Whittaker, CIO, Wella Company

Michael is now the CIO at Wella Company. Some of Michael’s previous roles include CIO at Upfield, Global Program Director of IT Transformation at Unilever and Senior Project Manager, CSC UN1TY Transition at BAE Systems. Michael brings more than 15 years of experience in blue chip organizations to his new role at Wella Company.


Soheyl Kadjani, CDO, Executive VP Digital Transformation, Rabobank

Soheyl was recently appointed as CDO and Executive VP of Digital Transformation at Rabobank. Prior to his new role, Soheyl was the Senior VP of Technology Transformation, Strategy and Digital at First Abu Dhabi Bank. He has previously worked for major international organizations such as IBM, ING bank, KLM airline, and Emirates group.


Archana Jain, CTO, Zurich Insurance

Archana Jain has recently been appointed as CTO at Zurich Insurance. Alongside her new role, Archana is an Advisory Board Member at the Stevens Institute of Technology and an Advisory Board Member for Customer Experience at Rutgers University. Prior to her current role, she was the VP of Information Technology at Verizon, where she worked for over 16 years.


Upendra Mardikar, CISO, TIAA

Upendra is now CISO at financial services company TIAA, where he has been working for the past month. Prior to his current role, he was the CISO at Snap Finance, where he led the company’s cyber security and privacy while building new platforms to enable growth opportunities. For more than five years, Upendra was VP of Information Security Strategy, Arch, Identity, Engineering and Application Security at American Express. He now brings a wealth of marketing experience to his new role at TIAA.
